Amazing Facts About Seafood
Seafood and your Health
At the Mussel Inn we are passionate about shellfish and seafood and we are always keen to highlight to our customers the amazing health-giving properties they contain.

Mussels, oysters and scallops are some of the most nutritious foods known to man. Low in calories, they are an excellent source of protein, vitamins and Omega-3 oils that help reduce the risk of heart disease and protect against certain forms of cancer.
Shellfish also contain life-enhancing minerals like copper, iodine, iron, selenium and zinc, which is critical to human libido and male fertility.
All this probably explains the shellfish’s enduring reputation as an aphrodisiac. But if you still don’t believe us, read on…
Everything About our Shellfish
The shellfish served at Mussel Inn form part of a renewable food source that is cultivated in an environmentally-friendly way in the nutrient-rich waters around Scotland’s North Atlantic coast.

These growing areas range from the beautiful and varied sea lochs of the West Coast, to the Inner and Outer Hebrides, and up to the Orkney and Shetland Isles. We also use mussels from Ireland and South West England (Devon) to ensure a supply all year round. They are located well away from areas of industry and population and the shellfish are not dredged from the wild stock living on the seabed but are collected naturally from the sea as spat and then on-grown suspended from lines that are anchored in open waters.
