|UPDATE 5 July 2018: Great News! Our wonderful, fresh Scottish mussels are back on the menu.
Our kilo and half-kilo pots of mussels are available again at both our Edinburgh and Glasgow restaurants.
You can now enjoy them again with our choice of delicious sauces including roasted red pepper sauce and basil pesto, Moroccan (chillies, garlic, ginger, coriander and cumin) and blue cheese, bacon and cream.
Regrettably, mussels will not feature on the Mussel Inn menus (both Edinburgh and Glasgow restaurants) during the week commencing Monday 2nd July until further notice.
We apologise to all our customers for any inconvenience that this may cause and as soon as we have any news we’ll let you know.
The recent hot weather has caused algae in the waters to bloom very rapidly and in huge quantities meaning when the mussels filter the sea water they are also absorbing large amounts of toxins.
This is affecting the whole of the UK and unfortunately we don’t know how long this mussel shortage will last.
As a result we will not be able to provide any kilo and half kilo pots of mussels from either our main menu, Lunchtime Quickie menu or Pre-Theatre menu. However, we do have some mussels set aside for a couple of dishes: seafood platter and shellfish pasta. Of course there are plenty more seafood dishes still available on our menu.
We are absolutely committed to providing high quality seafood (especially mussels!) and by continuing to work closely with our superb suppliers, who operate to the highest standards we can stay informed and keep you up-to-date.
