Mussels used in the Mussel Inn are farmed on the West Coast of Scotland. They are rope grown, which ensures a glossy shell and are grit-free.

It takes 2 years for the Mussels to grow to harvesting size and they can live up to 50 years.

Mussels are one of the most natural organic products available in today's market.

They are low in fat and sodium - high in B12 vitamins and Iron, rich in healthy Omega 3 Fatty Acids.

When buying Mussels, the shells should be bright, undamaged and closed. Given open Mussels a squeeze and a tap, if they close they are still alive if not they are dead and already unfit to eat.

To clean your Mussels, remove the beards and rinse under cold water (do not soak them). Once the beard is removed they will not keep for long and are best stored in a container with a damp cloth until needed.
